“Hey August, you make me miserable.”

August in Texas is known to be the most MISERABLE month of the year. If you ask someone from Texas what happened in their life in August, I guarantee they will tell you something indoors. In fact, everything is miserable, even the over-worked A/C units. They just look tired. August is the month that all other months loath. It’s the “red-headed step-child”, the client you are avoiding, the unreasonable car payment, the END of the never-ending breadsticks…it’s the thing that makes you cringe and say, “noooooooo!!!” Nevertheless, your August dreams have come true… Big Blue Ice Cream. Not only does it look good, but it tastes good.

It is by far the easiest recipe you could think of and the kids will go WILD over it. John is ‘over the moon ‘ about it. This is definitely a “have-your-kid-make-dessert” kind of platter here. I also like to call them, “go-to-the-porch-this-could-get-ugly” situations. Yet, I have been guilty as to having them take this to the back porch, make it, drink it, spill it, become human tape-rollers (they are so sticky), and then having the babysitter come over and Kevin and I go to a nice dinner. I’m an awful person. BUT, they LOVE IT! Honestly, just hose them off and consider it a bath. It’s a win-win!

Where would you get such a ridiculous recipe?

I have my pseudo-Aunt Vicki to thank for this idea. When I was a kid, Mom took me to New York/New Jersey area where her old college roommate lived at the time. It was so exciting! First, of all, she is the most fun person ever. Second, she is the kindest person ever, and third, she made me Big Red Ice Cream!! It was unforgettable, and so is she. I have so many fond memories of trips to see Aunt Vicki, she has a way of making you feel welcome and silly at the same time. We love her!!

So as a salute to my childhood and my Aunt Vicki, I mixed up her Big Red recipe and made it Big Blue, a new (hopefully just as happy) childhood memory for my kids. Honestly, I love this recipe with Big Red or Big Blue. I think the kids like the Blue due to the color and it TASTES LIKE COTTON CANDY.

Make it. They’ll never forget it.

Originally, the recipe was 1 liter of soda and 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (that’s it!). However, we all decided it was a little thin like creamy-slushy-kind-of ice cream, so we put 3 bottles (which equals about 1 liter) and 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk. In conclusion, the creaminess is perfect and it scoops out beautifully. Moreover, this may change your life!

FYI, quantities are incorrect here. Check recipe for details.

First, get your supplies for your ice cream maker (salt and ice) which can slightly vary from different makers (there are so many different makers to pick from.) Then, I used 3 Big Blue regular drinks and 2 cans of condensed milk.

Remember, you can always hose them off at any point. Time to let loose!!

Naturally, my little creative spirit, Phoenix, made a slushy out of hers. That was a cotton candy dream! What a great idea!!

It doesn’t take much to entertain me. So nostalgic, so yummy, and so easy.

Finally, I just scooped mine, put some “glam” on it, and called it a day. Creamy, sweet, and August dream!

I hope y’all enjoy it as much as we do!
